How do I get Monero?

There are a few steps involved in getting Monero for the first time.

1. Get a wallet

Head to the Monero website to download an application to create your Monero Wallet. Follow the guides on the website for how to do this.

2. Buy Bitcoin

Use a normal Bitcoin site, like Kraken or Coinbase, to buy some Bitcoin.

This may take a few steps for ID verification.

3. Exchange Bitcoin for Monero

Use a decentralized exchange like Bisq to exchange your Bitcoin for Monero (XMR) with other people online.

Once your have downloaded and set up Bisq, you need to add your Monero address in your payment accounts. You are looking for “XMR” which is the shorthand for Monero.

Fund your Bisq Bitcoin wallet by paying out from wherever you purchased Bitcoin from.

Then, initiate a trade of Bitcoin to Monero.

4. Make a transaction

Use the Monero app from step 1 to make a transaction to our address, above.
